People obviously still talk about the Miata a lot. But it seems like everyone’s forgotten the Fiata. I don’t think you can say people dismissed it because of reliability. Because AFAIK the multi air engine is perfectly reliable and it shares most of the other parts with the Miata and is built in Japan by Mazda also.

Pure speculation - everyone’s talking about Alfa Romeo and everyone temporarily forgot about Fiat as a whole. But maybe it’ll get its due next year? Who knows. Maybe it’s just the wrong time for a fiat 124 revival.

I tried a 124 Abarth. It was fun but the ride is terrible, the seats don’t recline enough, and the cup holders are even worse than my E92 BMW.

I’ve forgotten for now, I wish to potentially buy a used one, once they are about 10 years old, haha.

In the Miata community at least, they’re well-liked but.... Not as much as the ND. Inferior for tracking/autox, and while some companies make parts for them (Goodwin racing, flyin miata) there still isn’t as large of an aftermarket comparatively. I feel like we may see more in a few years

The ND cup holders are better than my NB1's cup holders that consisted of a little divot inside of the armrest. The little C-shaped black thing could flip over to create a second not-cupholder.

Kinja'd!!!

Kinja'd!!!

The NB2 center console shrank the compartment under the armrest and created two little cup holders.

Kinja'd!!!

The NC was the peak of Miata cup holder design, and had handy cup holders in the doors (this pic has an aftermarket aluminum trim ring).

Kinja'd!!!

But the ND has these goofy things that you have to attach to little slots in the center console and are impossible to reach without contorting yourself.

Kinja'd!!!

Progress!

Chrysler should’ve just kept the Japanese engine. They could’ve even made a turbo version 124 Spider Veloce since Mazda won’t make a Mazdaspeed Miata :p

It’s just a cupholder

At the end of the day you can’t really denote a car for something so small and really not that important

I think the ND received a warmer reception, and now that Summer has passed, there can be only one , highlander style.

On a personal note, I’ve seen a few in the wild, and the nose does not agree well with me.

I find the Miata the more attractive of the two. So not so much forgotten as not super excited about it

You can reposition the passenger-side cupholder to the right of the center stack. That way you only have one useless cupholder.

From my car shopping a large margin are auto, hard to find a good deal too. I would have bought one but I’m very happy with my Miata.

Every day I drive to work with a tumbler of good coffee from home so I don’t have to drink the shit coffee at work. My tumbler is too big for my shitty cup holders so I wedge it into the corner of my passenger seat with my work bag. I wrap it in a hand towel to catch any spills and I hold it in turns, just in case. I should get a tumbler that fits in my cup holder but my sister got me this one (actually 2, one each for me and my wife) and it keeps the coffee hot. I don’t ask for much, I just want something to hold my coffee.

Did you read the Grassroots Motorsports comparison between the two? The Fiat was consistently faster. They liked it better even though that opinion is considered sacrilege.

I actually really like the 2nd ones VW 2000-2005. The arm opens up to allow something with a larger diameter, and they fit anything up to 24 oz without a worry about spilling.

I haven’t, I’ll do so! Interesting. I love the styling, and if they came down a bit in price I’d certainly consider one. There’s an oppo around here with a 124 and an ND who’s done a lot of comparisons, but I haven’t heard from him in a while

I can’t imagine anyone that is worse than how it is in the Miata. I just don’t get why people won’t shut up about the Miata, but forget about the Fiat. I know the Miata has more to it’s name, but still.

I think it’s mostly that it’s too similar to the Miata to create any differentiation. So people who want a Miata just buy a Miata and people who don’t want a Miata don’t buy a Miata with a Fiat badge on it.

That front overhang would scrape my driveway. The ND would not. I don’t know why they thought that was a good choice.

I still have yet to see one on the road honestly and that makes me a bit sad. You’d think people would spring for the torquier engine when practically everything else is the same as the World’s Best-Selling Sports Car.

If the Fiat is faster, then the SCCA Solo Nationals guys haven’t paid attention to it. NDs dominated the leader boards for C-Street/stock. Granted, most of the pre-’16 FR-S/BRZ cars got bumped down to DS but they were a tenths of a second behind the NDs.

Kinja'd!!!

Hopefully someone brings one out to Nationals next year!
